The Heartbeat of Our Mission’s First Steps
Our Beginning in Swannanoa
In November 2024, the National Mental Health Alliance began its disaster relief journey in Swannanoa, North Carolina—an area deeply affected by Hurricane Helene and desperately in need of hope, housing, and healing.

This wasn’t just our first deployment site—it became the launchpad of our mission to bring light, shelter, and compassion to those who lost everything. Swannanoa was the beginning of something so much bigger.
What We Accomplished in Just 3 Months
Between November 2024 and February 2025, we:

-
Built and delivered 104 emergency housing structures
These shelters became lifelines for families displaced by the storm—providing warmth, privacy, and safety when everything else was lost.

-
Established our very first "Shed of Hope" hub
This wasn’t just a structure—it was the heart of our operation. The Shed of Hope served as a central hub for the community to receive:-
Essential supplies
-
Food and water
-
Hygiene products
-
Basic clothing
-

-
Hosted over 400 volunteers from across the country
Volunteers showed up with hammers, hearts, and helping hands. They built, delivered, cleaned, cooked, and comforted—proving the power of community in action.
